1. The lights are on but nobody’s home – used to describe a stupid
person.
燈亮着卻沒人在家——用於描述很愚蠢的人。
Example: She really has no clue- the lights are on but nobody’s home!
例子：她完全抓不着頭緒——腦子笨的像頭豬。
2. Everything but the kitchen sink – almost everything has been
included.
除了廚房裏的水槽什麼都有——幾乎包括了所有事。
Example: Maria was trying so hard to get the question right, she was
throwing out everything but the kitchen sink!
例子：爲了證明問題是正確的，瑪利亞幾乎把所有的事都說了個遍。
3. Cute as a Button
如紐扣般可愛——由於特定的原因，如果某物真的很可愛，我們可以將它和紐扣做比較。 cute as a button就是一箇習語。

5. When pigs fly – about something that will never happen.

6. Like Water off a Duck’s Back
這個習語的意思是“no effect on a person”，也就是“對某人不起作用、對牛彈琴”。
Terry never gets upset when he is criticised. It’s like water off a duck’s
back. 泰瑞受到批評後一點也不沮喪，就像是對牛彈琴。
7. To have a cast iron stomach – to have no problems eating or drinking
anything.
有個鐵胃——喫、喝任何東西都沒問題。
Example: I think I would be sick if I ate all that food, but Joe seems to
have a cast iron stomach.

8. To drink like a fish – to drink heavily.

9. Use your loaf – use your head, think smart.

Example: Come on Parker, use your loaf! I know you can solve this
problem!

10. To put a sock in it – to tell someone noisy to be quiet.
放只襪子在裏面——告訴某個很吵的人保持安靜。
Example: Jane was yelling while I was studying so I told her to put a sock
in it.
